Resources and waste management: 9R framework to promote the circular economy

🌱 Reflecting on My Participation in the DSV Training Program on Sustainability 🌍
I am delighted to have contributed to the DSV Training Program on Sustainability, a two-day event focused on empowering young talents with innovative approaches to sustainable practices. The program, designed by Massimiliano Rossetti in collaboration with the RUS network (Italian University Network for Sustainable Development), provided a platform to discuss critical strategies for advancing sustainability in business operations.
During my session, I had the privilege of presenting on “Resources and Waste Management: The 9R Framework to Promote the Circular Economy.” My talk highlighted the 9R principles as a roadmap to a sustainable future, including:
Refuse: Rethinking smart product use to eliminate waste.
Rethink: Making products more multifunctional or intensively used.
Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle, and Recover.
We explored the concept of moving from a linear economy (“cradle to grave”) to a circular economy (“cradle to cradle”), emphasizing that transformation processes are often imperfect. I underscored the importance of addressing “hidden flows” like pollutants and waste generated during production and how implementing the 9R framework can help organizations close resource loops.
The discussions with the young talents from the Solutions Accelerate Program were inspiring. Their creative and innovative ideas to adapt these principles into actionable projects demonstrate their readiness to become sustainability leaders.
🙏 My gratitude goes to Massimiliano Rossetti, DSV Solutions, and the RUS network for creating this impactful event. It’s rewarding to see such a strong commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
